The car insurance bureau doesn’t just license companies in a particular state; it also investigates complaints made by consumers.

When an insurance buyer has an issue with a particular company, his or her first approach should be to attempt to resolve the issue with the company directly rather than to take the insurer to court.

If a car insurance company has denied a claim, the policyholder should ask the company about appeal procedures and go through that process first.

If the appeal is denied or the issue cannot be resolved between the policyholder and the car insurance company directly, the policyholder can take the matter to the car insurance bureau.

Starting this process is a very simple matter, and the bureau can take this information over the phone.

  • Once a complaint has been received, the car insurance bureau opens a file and starts to investigate the matter.
  • The insurance company is contacted and given the opportunity to respond to the allegations.
  • The car insurance bureau gathers the information and attempts to resolve the matter.

Car Insurance Bureau Remains Neutral

Consumers need to understand that the car insurance bureau is not for or against either the consumer or the car insurance company. It is a neutral organization that will consider whether the insurance company dealt with the issue ethically and appropriately.
