Direct General Insurance prides itself on providing quality insurance. The main focus for the Direct General Insurance company is providing insurance for high-risk drivers.

What Constitutes a High-Risk Driver

A high-risk driver is a person that has a less-than-stellar driving record.

A person can be classified as a high-risk driver by being involved in numerous accidents or moving violations.

If a driver has ever defaulted on a car insurance policy with another car insurance provider, they will also be designated a high-risk driver.

A very young driver might also be classified as a high-risk driver just because of their age.

When someone is classified as a high-risk driver, they can have a very hard time finding a car insurance provider.

When a car insurance company knows that a person is classified as a high-risk driver, they will typically charge this person a much higher car insurance rate than a person with a better driving record.

Sometimes a high-risk driver must obtain an SR22 before they can be issued a car insurance policy, even from a car insurance provider that specializes in high-risk drivers.

An SR22 is a form that the car insurance provider must file with the state in which the driver lives.

This form lets the state know that the driver does indeed have the minimum amount of liability car coverage that the state requires, and that the driver meets the requirements of the insurance policy financially.

It is very important for a high-risk driver that has an SR22 dependent car insurance policy to make sure that there are no more incidents with their driving history.

If the driver lets their policy expire or lapse, or if it is canceled for any reason, the car insurance provider must inform the state. At this point, it is very likely that the driver will have their license suspended. In some cases the consequences might be even more serious.

It is also critical that if an SR22 driver moves to another state, they update their car insurance and make their new provider aware of their situation.

Each state has different requirements and this can affect the driver’s car insurance premium significantly.

The Benefits of Choosing Direct General Insurance

It can be hard for a high-risk driver to find a car insurance provider that is willing to offer them coverage at a decent price. That is why it is so important to find a reputable company that is trustworthy and dependable.

Direct General has more than 400 office locations and is licensed to write insurance in 12 states.

These states include:

  • Florida
  • Arkansas
  • Georgia
  • Louisiana
  • Illinois
  • Missouri
  • South Carolina
  • Mississippi
  • North Carolina
  • Virginia
  • Tennessee
  • Texas

Direct General Insurance Coverage Options

While the premiums with Direct General might be a little higher because they service high-risk drivers, the coverage options are the same that they would be with a more traditional car insurance provider.

These coverage options include bodily injury liability coverage, property damage liability insurance, collision insurance, comprehensive coverage, personal injury protection coverage, medical payments insurance, towing coverage, rental reimbursement coverage, and accidental death coverage.

Both bodily injury and property damage liability coverage offer protection to the policyholder if they are in an accident that is their fault.

These liability coverage options will pay for medical and legal expenses, as well as property damage.

Collision and comprehensive coverage covers the costs incurred when the policyholder’s car is damaged.

Collision covers damage caused by a collision with another car or object, or if the car is rolled. This type of coverage also insures against hit-and-run accidents.

Comprehensive coverage covers damage caused by something other than a collision. Some examples of this would be vandalism, fire, flood, hail, tree branches, or hitting an animal.

Personal injury protection is also known as no-fault insurance. This form of insurance is mandatory in some states. No-fault insurance pays for a certain amount of hospital, medical, work loss, or funeral expenses caused due to an accident, no matter who is at fault for the accident.
