What You Must Have in Nevada
Regardless of which Nevada car insurance company you choose, you must hold specific car insurance coverage requirements by law. This will not change from company to company because if they write a policy, they must already know this.
The coverage includes:
- Bodily injury liability for one person of $15,000
- Bodily injury liability for the whole accident of $30,000
- Property damage liability of $10,000
- Uninsured motorist is not required
- Medical payments are not required
- Collision is not required
- Comprehensive is not required
Of the bodily injury and property damage liability, these are the bare minimums that you must choose. It is your choice of whether you want to go above this, which many people choose to do simply to have the coverage if necessary.
For example, a $15,000 bodily injury liability will protect you up to $15,000 worth of medical expenses if you were involved in an accident. Anything more than that is your financial responsibility. It is for this reason that many choose something more along the lines of $100,000.
The items that are not required are often still purchased.
A deductible for collision and comprehensive can keep the monthly premiums affordable without limiting yourself on the coverage altogether.
Collision will cover you in the event of colliding with something else while comprehensive protects you against things out of your control, such as rocks hitting your windshield, hail or having your car hit while it’s parked in a parking lot.

Choosing Between the Car Insurance Companies
There are many different car insurance companies throughout the state of Nevada and beyond that are able to give you a policy.
Their fees can be drastically different from one another, which is why it’s important to compare rates between all of them to see which one is the right one for you.
- Allstate – Allstate is a national provider that gives you roadside assistance with your policy and pride themselves on giving you more services than the average provider with your monthly premium. In addition to auto insurance, they provide insurance for property, power sports, life, and business
- Geico – Geico offers its customers real service, including the ability to talk to an agent. The process can be managed over the phone or online. They also offer additional things besides auto insurance, including all other vehicle insurance, overseas, property, life and identity theft insurance
- Progressive – Progressive prides itself on helping people to save money on their insurance and was voted the #1 insurance website by Keynote Systems in 2011. Their services are available via phone, office and the internet and feature services for cars, boats, motorcycles, home, renter’s, life and other policies
There are many other insurance companies throughout the area, however, these are the top four that should be among your choices when comparing car insurance rates.
Each one may offer something a little different that is worth looking into. The rate isn’t the only thing you should be comparing.
You also need to look at what they offer you for that rate, including:
- Roadside assistance
- Quick claim information
- Online bill pay
- Customer service
- Ability to bundle services
Each of these different services may be something that you’re willing to pay a little more for in order to get.
Ultimately, you need to have auto insurance in order to keep your car on the road. That car insurance card will be requested anytime that you are pulled over and not having one could result in imprisonment, fines and much more.
Comparing Companies and Services
The easiest way to compare the insurance companies is not to go on each individual website. This can be very time-consuming and should be avoided when possible.
Instead, it’s easier to use our online tool that gives you car insurance quotes from multiple companies at one time.
This allows you to check rates quickly side by side so that you can see what each company is offering you in terms of a monthly payment for the different types of coverage levels that you opted for.
Some of the companies will offer you roadside assistance and others won’t. You need to weigh the options of this. It might cost a little extra money but not necessarily.
If you’re ever stranded on the side of the road, calling your insurance company to send a tow truck or a little gas your way can be very convenient, so it’s something to look into when you’re shopping for companies.
Another thing you need to consider is the ability to bundle services as a way of lowering your monthly obligations. The companies that offer other insurance policies beyond auto insurance may give you a reduced rate if you’re a customer of there’s already or if you bring them business.
Switching your homeowner’s insurance, renter’s insurance or any other policy over to them may yield you even lower monthly premiums, which will help your entire family’s budget.
While you might not save that much on car insurance, if you lower another insurance payment, it has an overall positive effect on your monthly expenses.
Comparing doesn’t have to take a long time, but you do need to look at everything when you’re doing the comparisons — not just the price.
Considering all the different options and choices you have for car insurance it seems obvious that the only way to find the best auto insurance policy is by comparing the offers from different carriers.
Knowing what you really need and carefully comparing price and coverage will ensure that you find the best car insurance in Nevada for you.
