Final Verdict: Review of National General

If you’re a high-risk driver looking for auto insurance, National General may be a great fit for you. With National General, you can purchase minimum or full coverage, with many add-ons to help you customize your car insurance policy.

National General offers discounts for multiple policies, affiliations with General Motors, and more. Discounts help you save a significant amount on your car insurance coverage. Still, rates with National General are consistently higher than the national average and some other well-known car insurance companies.

Before you buy car insurance with National General, find and compare quotes from multiple companies. Doing so will help you learn which company offers the coverage you want at a price that works with your budget. Get free quotes from local companies with our comparison tool below.

What You Should Know About National General Insurance Company (Integon)

When comparing car insurance, you may find it difficult to know which company to choose, especially if you have difficulty finding coverage based on your driving record. Certain insurance companies may not offer coverage or will increase your rates if you have a poor driving record and are considered high risk.

Fortunately, National General Insurance Company offers affordable car insurance to high-risk drivers.

If you have infractions on your driving record, you may want to consider National General. The company specializes in minimum coverage policies, and you may get car insurance with National General for less than other companies in your area.

Before you choose National General as your auto insurance company, compare National General auto insurance quotes with other options to see which offers the best coverage at a low price. Learning how to get car insurance that works with your budget and meets your needs as a driver is important. You can find and compare policies and rates as you shop online to learn what might work best.

National General is a good car insurance company, but it does have room for improvement. For instance, the company’s customer service and rate structure are two areas many National General customers state need to change.

In terms of rates, National General’s auto insurance rates are much higher than rates from other companies. For example, a minimum coverage policy for a 35-year-old female may cost two or even three times as much with National General as it would with a company like Geico.

National General also garners a significant number of complaints. According to the NAIC, National General receives customer complaints nearly double the national average for a company of its size. Still, the National General insurance rating with A.M. Best is an A+ (Superior) regarding the company’s financial strength.

Because National General does not have a mobile app, the company loses the interest of certain potential policyholders. It offers a usage-based program for auto insurance, but monitoring is outsourced to a third-party app called Routely. If National Generals need to file a claim or make payments, they must do so on the National General website or over the phone.

What makes National General unique?

National General offers savings for people who want to save money when they purchase multiple policies.

For example, the company allows individuals who insure both a car and an RV with the company to save as much as 20% on their monthly or annual rates. Additionally, if you’re in an accident and your RV and car are damaged, National General will waive one deductible when it’s time to make repairs.

While other insurance companies are unwilling to do so, National General files SR-22 forms for those needing them. The company may charge a small fee, but people who must file an SR-22 may be happy to do so to receive proper coverage.

National General’s relationship with General Motors allows the company to offer affiliation rates. Because National General was previously the Motors Insurance Company founded by General Motors, National General offers discounts to individuals with affiliations with General Motors.

National General also offers SmartServices, a program allowing policyholders to manage the repair process following a covered event.

One feature of SmartServices is SmartValet. For example, with SmartValet, someone will pick up your vehicle after a covered event, bring you a rental, and return your car and the rental vehicle once repairs are done.

How does National General handle claims?

Reviews for the company’s claim-handling process are mediocre. In addition, most customers complain about National General’s poor customer service. However, National General does try to process claims as quickly as possible, and the company pays most small claims within 48 hours of a settlement.

Customers complain about the company’s claims service, but these complaints are not as common as those about National General customer service.

Cheap coverage, bad customer service

Cheap company! They have a terrible coverage and they basically ignore police reports to avoid paying for your vehicle damage. Don’t lose your time, they will do nothing for you. Customer service is a shame, consultants never answer the phone and they never get back to you if you leave a voice mail.

THIS IS THE WORST INSURANCE CARRIER!! My vehicle was stolen earlier this year and I made a police report and reported it to my insurance (National General Insurance Company (Integon). First off, it takes them weeks to get back to you with an update. My car was towed and impounded, I received a letter and reported it to them so they can pick it up. I missed work to go to the impound and sign off the car to the insurance, so they are able to pick it from the lot, as I am the owner, but after a week they call me to tell me that the car is being towed to my house instead of a shop. My vehicle is completely dead, I have no idea what they did to it. I know with this advanced technology; they can snatch a car with new devices. After months of waiting to hear back, they sent me a letter stating they will not fix my car as there was no forced entry. I do not have a couple thousands hanging around to fix it on my own, so I don't have a drivable car. I am disappointed! I want to share my experience, so you guys know what this insurance does not offer. There is new technology out there, they are claiming that no one broke in since there are no signs of forced entry. They do not deserve your money. They need to update their policy to reflect the "new" times. So now because someone decided to take my car for a joy ride resulting in a electrical breakdown, I have been car-less for months! While the insurance wiped their hands clean, claiming they cannot fix it because there were NO SIGNS OF FORCED ENTRY. It is RIDICULIOUS!!

HORRIBLE INSURANCE

My mom had gotten this insurance my car was involved in a a hit and run accident and the bumper was stolen from the vehicle. They denied my claim due to them failing to ask my mom of the people that live at the residence and canceled the policy. They have horrible response time and don’t bother sending out an adjuster to see the car. I will be taking legal actions

Hi Everyone, Wanted to take the time in writing a formal review on this insurance. There was a situation with my auto insurance that made me cancel my policy with Integron. I paid about $137 for my new vehicle insurance and was probably paying for a whole 2 years ( about 3,288 total) with them until a homeless driver hit my vehicle. I was not at fault and the insurance company offered no help with getting my car taken care of.. had to pay deductible and baisically full balance since the insurance company only offered to help with 114$ overall. It was very unbelievable and not only that, they didn't want to send anyone to look at the car but send pictures of car at surface level so they basically did not offer any accurate diagnosis when deciding how much they are supposed to help with fixing my account. PLEASE I BEG EVERYONE TO AVOID THIS INSURANCE. I will try my best to spread the word out across every platform because I son't anyone to go through this either. I just couldn't imagine if I had gotten in even a bigger accident, this insurance would try it's best to go against me.

Useless if Rental Needed

After waiting 17 days with a broken back from a car accident, was told there is still NO ETA on a car insurance adjuster to see car, and without the estimate there is NO RENTAL given. Can't get to doctor appointments! Insanely expensive HORRID car insurance!

Worse experience

Worse experience ever!! Horrible!! I will not recommend them at all. I had my car hit and run claim and it took them 4 weeks to process the claim. No communication whenever I call no answer and after leaving a voicemail they never call back. They denied my claim cuz there specialist said that the car was moving when it got hit and I gave them all the proof that the car was parked in the parking lot. I even gave them a instant police report. My car has full coverage and still they are not fixing it. What’s the point of me paying them every month. So frustrating and stressful I will change my insurance company and will take legal action. I just hope this doesn’t happen to anyone else How can you tell the car was moving by looking at the picture and denie the claim they really have some dumb specialist that don’t now what they are doing. So mad 😡 I would give them zero stars. Please stay away from ngic
