Here's what you need to know...

  • Although Allstate is a larger company and Safeco is a mid-sized company, Safeco offers many of the same car insurance services.
  • Allstate may offer more discounts on its own, but Safeco’s discounts might save you more.
  • Allstate car insurance has better financial and customer service ratings.

When comparing Allstate vs. Safeco, it can be hard to decide which company is better for your car insurance needs.

Allstate is a large company that offers more services overall. Allstate also offers a good student car insurance discount, usage-based car insurance discounts, and payment history discounts.

Safeco is a mid-size company that is part of the Liberty Mutual network. You can receive excellent services from Safeco at a lower price, but Safeco offers fewer discounts.

Ultimately, you will need to weigh the types of coverages you need against the total cost. We have you covered, and you can compare insurance quotes by entering your ZIP code in the quote tool above.

Allstate vs. Safeco: Which company is more affordable?

Allstate generally has the highest prices of all the major companies. Allstate car insurance rates may be as high as $7,000 or more per year in some states. Its lowest average yearly rates are around $1,787, which is 35% higher than its average competitor.

Safeco might not be the cheapest car insurance company, but it is more affordable than Allstate. Average Safeco car insurance rates may be as low as $110 per month.

Allstate vs. Safeco: Which insurance company offers better discounts?

Of course, drivers can save when they bundle their car insurance with homeowners insurance or other types of coverage. Safeco policyholders can save up to 15% by bundling their home and car insurance.

Both companies offer collision deductible reductions.

Safeco’s diminishing deductible rewards renewing policyholders for each year that no one files a claim against their policies. Deductibles decrease by $100 each year until they reach a $500 cap.

Allstate’s Deductible Rewards® program works the same way, except it subtracts the first $100 at signup.

Besides these similarities, it looks like Allstate has more discounts than Safeco. However, one of Safeco’s discounts might make its rates lower overall for some drivers.

For starters, Safeco has a Claims Free Cash Back™ program. Drivers who go over six months to a year without filing claims can get 2.5%-5% cashback based on how much they paid on their policy during that period.

Safeco drivers who use the RightTrack mobile app can also have a 5%-30% reduction in their rates. Users in most states can save up to $513 off their yearly insurance rates. (The app is not available in Arkansas, California, Delaware, Hawaii, North Carolina, or Washington, D.C.)

The RightTrack plugin is only available in New York. The plugin allows drivers to save up to 30%.

How strong are Allstate and Safeco’s financial and customer service rankings?

Both Allstate and Safeco have high financial rankings, but the former edges out the latter.

Recently, Allstate received an A+ rating from A.M. Best and an Aa3 rating from Moody’s. Standard and Poor’s (S&P) gave Allstate Corp. an A- issue credit rating and AA- financial strength rating.

Safeco Car Insurance company received an A rating from A.M. Best, an A2 rating from Moody’s, and an A- from S&P.
