Unless you want to build your own car most of us don’t think about how cars are built, until we get in an accident that requires auto insurance.
Still, many amazing cars get constructed in equally amazing ways. Some are built by hand, and some require an army of robots. You may not realize that in the time it takes you to get in your car, strap in and get out of the driveway, another car identical to yours could have been built (depending on what you drive, of course).
Check out this collection of cars getting built from scratch and then be sure to enter your zip in above to compare companies and find the very best rates on car insurance!
BMW 5 Series
The 5 Series is part of BMW’s lineup of “Ultimate Driving Machines”. It also appears as if these German-bred cars also require an advanced army of ultimate robots to assemble them. We would not want to be around if these machines attempted to assemble their own empire. They look big, and angry. Plus, they shoot fire.

Average Annual Insurance: $1,989.10
Fiat 500
The Fiat 500 is a new vehicle developed by the Italian automaker. It will be coming to the United States as a 2012 model via Chrysler outlets. It is a compact vehicle with some style and substance; we’re guessing that it’s going to be pretty easy on the ol’ insurance budget as well.

Possible Dangers: Inability to Accelerate
Average Annual Insurance: (Est) $1,207.22
Audi Q7
Not familiar with the Audi Q7? Not a problem, we’ll explain it to you. Because if we don’t, you’ll have to watch the entire video trying to understand why Audi is making a bus. Actually, it’s more like a station wagon. But a classy wagon. Audi classy, of course. That’s what Audi would like you to call it, although it’s really just known as a “crossover.” What it crosses over from is unknown.
Specs: 4 Door, Six Cylinder, 225-333HP
Possible Dangers: Being Carjacked by an Envious Soccer Mom
Average Annual Insurance: $1,575.98
BMW X1
If you’ve never seen BMW’s production plant in Leipzig, Germany, you’re in for a treat here. The building itself is mixed-use, with engineers and production workers in the same building. The unfinished vehicles actually run down an assembly line that goes through the office area. You’ll likely be impressed by this video of the X1 crossover being made.
Specs: 4 Door, Six Cylinder, 230-260HP
Possible Dangers: People Fooled into Purchasing an Audi Q7
Average Annual Insurance: Coming to the USA soon
Lamborghini Gallardo
The Gallardo is a machine built primarily for speed. It’s also built by hand, and as this video shows, it is done by many of those. From basic assembly to using power tools as well as sewing, you can understand why it costs so much to own one of these beasts. Oh, and the video also says that the Gallardo is the first Lamborghini that can be a “daily driver,” as long as you don’t mind parallel parking your Lamborghini on the street while you run in to get groceries.
Specs: 2 Door, Ten Cylinder, 523HP
Possible Dangers: Use of the Gas Pedal
Average Annual Insurance: $2,911.30
Toyota Camry Hybrid
This isn’t just a Camry, this is a Camry HYBRID. That means it’s eco-friendly. Unfortunately, when we look at this army of robots putting this car together, the idea of saving trees doesn’t come to mind. You’ll just imagine all of these robots working in a meadow.
Specs: 4 Door, Four Cylinder, 187HP
Possible Dangers: Hybrid Haywire
Average Annual Insurance: $1,312.03
Ford Fiesta
All right, we’re not sure it’s “awesome,” but the Ford Fiesta is making a comeback! It feels like… there needs to be… some kind of party… like a fiesta! You can see in this video that it takes a combination of robots and people to make this compact car, which actually looks pretty attractive despite its bean-like shape. Maybe that’s because Ford found out that lentils are aerodynamic.
Specs: 4 Door, Four Cylinder, 119HP
Possible Dangers: SUVs Running you Over
Average Annual Insurance: $1,352.41
Mercedes Benz SL55 AMG
This Mercedes is another car that gets a lot of human attention, from the installing of the engine to the final buffing of the car. That explains why this car costs so much to purchase: it costs a lot to build. That, and the fact that, you know, it’s a Mercedes Benz.
Specs: 2 Door, Eight Cylinder, 493HP
Possible Dangers: Looking Too Cool
Average Annual Insurance: $2,302.47
Chevy Corvette
They always call the Corvette “American muscle,” but surely there are some bodybuilders that would call themselves the same thing. This clip shows some great time lapse action, illustrating that building the fiberglass-based Corvette is a time-intensive affair. But hey, it takes time to build muscle.
Specs: 2 Door, Eight Cylinder, 430HP
Possible Dangers: Foreigners
Average Annual Insurance: $2,007.22
Ford Model T
Remember the Model T? Man, those were the good old days. And so many options came standard, as long as they were black. This fascinating video shows not only Henry Ford’s famous assembly line (which looks remarkably similar to the Corvette video above), but the manufacturing of the 15 millionth Model T, and some great shots of the Model T’s handling and off-road performance. Who knew it was also the first ATV?
Specs: 2 Door, Four Cylinder, 20HP
Possible Dangers: Horses with a Vengeance
Average Annual Insurance: You Kidding?
