Mercedes-Benz History

The Mercedes-Benz brand can be traced back to 1886 when Karl Benz established the 1886 Benz Patent Motorwagen, which is considered the first automobile.

Most Americans consider Henry Ford to have been the inventor of automobiles, but Benz preceded Ford.

Ford’s claim to fame was the automation and simplification of auto assembly, allowing automobile parts to be interchangeable, thus making cars easier to repair.

Mercedes-Benz is based in Germany and is a division of Daimler AG. Mercedes-Benz is part of the three German automakers, including Audi and BMW, that represent the world’s best-selling automakers.

Mercedes-Benz vehicles are made all over the world, with a notable exception with regard to Iran. J.D.Powers, a well-known automobile rating firm, gave Mercedes-Benz an above average rating in build quality and reliability in Powers’ 2011 US Initial Quality and Vehicle Dependability Studies.

Reviews and Ratings from Consumer Websites

Because sedans are the most reasonable purchases for most American drivers, we focused on the Mercedes C-Class sedan.

Even though this is a compact sedan, it drives like a luxury car.

The suspension is solid, but not stiff. A 201-hp, turbocharged four-cylinder engine gives the vehicle agility, although the 24-mpg EPA rating is not the best. Evidently, one does pay for luxury.

The cabin of the car is relatively free of noise except for some road rumble. The only complaint found was that the rear seat comfortably accommodates only two adults instead of the three that are rated.

The 2014 year is the second year of production for this particular car and a leading consumer website indicates that this vehicle has performed adequately for two years. It is expected to remain reliable considering its history.

Why Purchase Car Insurance?

We purchase car insurance primarily because the law in all of the 50 states of the United States requires us to have it continually in force.

Not having car insurance can lead to fines that vary from state to state as well as the levying of costs for automobile accidents for which we are liable.

No one ever deliberately intends to have an accident. Accidents happen and usually cost money in the form of medical bills or damage to property.

Suggested Basic Limits of Liability

States have legally required limits of liability that you can determine by examining the websites for the Insurance Commissioner within your state.

The following suggested limits are more than adequate for most states and form the basis for the sample quotations:

  • Bodily Injury Liability – $100,000 per person or $300,000 per accident. Your responsibility for medical bills and expenses incurred as a legal liability in the event of an accident.
  • Property Damage Liability – $50,000 per accident. Your responsibility for damage to the property of others incurred as a legal liability in an accident.
  • Medical Payments Coverage – $5,000 per accident. This coverage pays for the incidental medical expenses incurred in an accident by you or your passengers if the accident is not your fault.
  • Uninsured Motorists Bodily Injury – $100,000 per person/$300,000 per accident. Gives medical coverage if you are involved in an accident with someone who has no insurance.
  • Comprehensive Coverage – Suggested deductible of $500 per accident. This provides protection against weather, theft, animal damage, vandalism, and glass damage to your own vehicle.
  • Collision Coverage – Suggested deductible of $500 per accident. This provides protection for your vehicle against collision damage.

Insuring a Mercedes-Benz

How much is insurance for a Mercedes-Benz C-Class? For quotation purposes, one of the Mercedes-Benz C-Class sedans was chosen because the basic price, reviews, and overall reliability of the vehicle were appealing.

You are undoubtedly aware that, in the field of insurance, rates are based on each individual company’s statistical experience. These statistics are based upon drivers, ages, experience, credit scores, and driving records.

Sample Insurance Quotes for a Mercedes-Benz C-Class Sedan

How much does it cost to insure a Mercedes-Benz? For quotation purposes, the proposed customer is a husband and wife, both 33 years old, living in Black Hawk, Colorado, a resort town. They commute to work, own their own home, and just have one vehicle.

Insurance Company #1: $1,620.52 every six months

Insurance Company #2: $1,354.30 every six months

The costs for insurance will vary according to your circumstances. Multi-car discounts, good student discounts (even for college students), and excellent driving records can affect your insurance rates.

Because of these differences and the fact that individual insurance company’s statistical performances vary, it is worth doing a cost-comparison annually on your car insurance.
