Here's what you need to know...

  • Infiniti is a division of Nissan
  • Infinity is a luxury brand
  • Insurance quotes can vary greatly between companies, so doing a comparison check can save you hundreds of dollars
  • The average rates for Infiniti car insurance are $2,265/yr or $189/mo

Infiniti is actually the luxury division of Nissan Motor Company, established in 1989 to address the premium vehicle in the United States. Nissan at that time did not produce a more luxurious vehicle.

It rose because of the Japanese government’s attempt to impose export regulations for the United States.

If you are aware of history, this is the point in time when American automakers were having trouble competing with imports that are more economical.

Trade regulations in Japan made it more profitable for the Japanese automakers to export more expensive cars to the United States. At about this same time, Toyota developed the Lexus and Honda developed the Acura.

Infiniti was intended to compete directly with the BMW and their G series, introduced in 2003.

The Infiniti brand expanded to include a sedan, SUV, coupe, and crossover. Strangely enough, 2014 is the first year in which the Infiniti will be marketed in Japan. The first Infiniti model to be sold in Japan is called the Skyline, a hybrid version of the Q50 sedan.

Here is the 2016 listing of models and their MSRPs for Infiniti:

  • Q50 Sedan $33,950
  • Q60 Coupe $40,950
  • Q60 IPL Coupe $51,200
  • Q60 Convertible $48,550
  • Q60 IPL Convertible $62,100
  • QX50 Crossover $34,450
  • QX80 SUV $63,250
  • QX70 Crossover $44,950
  • QX80 SUV $61,350
  • Q50 Hybrid $43,950
  • QX60 Hybrid $44,550
  • M Hybrid $54,750

Of course, the Manufacturers Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) excludes destination and handling charges, tax, title, license, and options. Buyers need to be aware that discounts can be negotiated with individual dealers, too.

It’s worth asking among dealers to ascertain any discounts.

Reviews and Opinions on the Infiniti

Owners tend to be happy with their Infiniti cars.

A fact of interest is that Nissan, Infiniti’s parent company, is planning to have an autonomous drive vehicle by 2020. Could this be the future for the Infiniti also?

Insurance for an Infiniti

Comparison-shopping for insurance is just as important as comparison-shopping for the car itself. You should check insurance rates annually to make sure that you acquire the best prices available.

Increasingly insurance companies are beginning to give price breaks for loyalty to one company, so be certain to check those discounts, too.

Basic Information You Will Need for an Insurance Quote-

  • Names, Dates of Birth, and Drivers License Numbers for all drivers
  • Driving records for each, including accidents and tickets
  • Make and model of the car or cars to be insured

Suggested Limits of Liability for Insurance Quotes

  • Bodily Injury Liability – $100,000 per person/$300,000 each accident: This provides coverage in the event that you are legally liable for injury to others for an accident
  • Property Damage Liability $50,000 per accident: This provides coverage in the event of legal liability for property damage
  • Medical Payments Coverage – $5,000 per accident: This provides medical payments in the event of an accident
  • Comprehensive Coverage – $500 deductible: Pays for damage to your own vehicle from such things as animal damage, vandalism, theft, and weather damage.
  • Collision Coverage $500 deductible: Pays for damage to your own vehicle from collision
  • Uninsured Motorists Coverage – $100,000 per person/$300,000 each accident: Pays for injury to you or your passengers in the event that you are involved in an accident with an uninsured motorist.

With regard to uninsured motorists coverage, it is wise to consider that statistically 16.1% of all drivers are uninsured. Most of these individuals have vehicles that are 15 years and older, and their income is less than $20,000 annually.

These are suggested limits of liability for insurance. They adhere or surpass the limits required by most states’ legal liability. When requesting quotations, be sure to ask for the same limits from each company so you can truly compare prices.

The hypothetical people quoted are married; the husband is 25 years old and a full-time student, the wife 24 years old and a dental hygienist.

He commutes 10 miles one way to school, and his wife catches the bus to her job. They have had neither any accidents nor claims against their insurance.

At present, they have no children or other drivers and they rent their apartment in Ft. Collins, Colorado. All of these factors can affect your insurance quotations.

Both insurance companies are well-rated by A.M. Best, an insurance company rating firm.

As you can tell, comparison-shopping for insurance can make a definite difference in your premiums. Insurance companies’ filings with State Insurance Departments vary a great deal, depending upon their statistics and experience in the state.
