Here's what you need to know...
  • Before getting an insurance quote, it is necessary to check with the insurance department of your state to determine the basic limits of liability required
  • Often the required limits of liability in a state are inadequate because state financial responsibility laws have not been updated since the laws were passed
  • If you have a loan or a later model car, you may wish to carry physical damage coverage to reimburse you for damages to your own

Volkswagen’s presence in the United States began after World War II in the 1950s with the Beetle.

Even though the vehicle was called the “Beetle” in the United States, Volkswagen referred to the Beetle as a “Type 1” vehicle.

Regardless of what you drive, be sure to have the right insurance. Use the FREE comparison tool above and enter your ZIP code to get started!

Insuring Your Volkswagen

Each state has its own financial responsibility law that sets the statutory limits for insurance.

This is some of the data that you will need to get an insurance quote:

  • Complete names, dates of birth, and license numbers for all members of your household
  • Driving records for each of the drivers
  • Year, make, and model of the vehicles to be insured.
  • Use of the vehicles – for commuting, business, or personal use

The following limits of liability are suggested to protect yourself and your family:

  • Bodily Injury Liability covers your legal responsibility for bodily injury in the event of an accident for which you are responsible
  • Property Damage Liability – covers your legal responsibility for property damage liability in an accident
  • Medical Payments Coverage covers injury to you and your family in an accident.
  • Uninsured Motorists Coverage – pays for bodily injury to you and your family for medical bills incurred as a result of an accident with an uninsured motorist

You should examine your state’s laws and make certain that it is not one of the states that require no-fault insurance.

No-fault states do not offer medical payments coverage or uninsured motorists coverage because that type of insurance is offered under no-fault insurance.

Usually, a deductible is purchased to reduce the cost of the insurance:

  • Comprehensive coverage – pays for vandalism, fire, animal or weather damage, glass, and theft to your own car
  • Collision coverage – pays for collision damage to your car whether the accident is your fault or that of another
