Here's what you need to know...
  • Farmers is one of America’s top auto insurance providers and one of the largest corporations in the country
  • A wide range of insurance products makes Farmers a good choice if you’re interested in bundling policies to save money

Getting car insurance can feel like a daunting task; with so many options, how can you decide which company is right for you? Is there a way to guarantee you’re getting the best coverage for the lowest price?

A lot of factors come into play when it comes to calculating auto insurance premiums, but comparison shopping is one way to ensure that your coverage doesn’t come at any unnecessary costs.

There are a lot of other aspects to consider when choosing a car insurance company. What’s their customer service like? Do they offer discounts or reward programs? What type of support, benefits, and assistance do customers receive?

When you’re shopping for a new car insurance policy, consider the company as much as the coverage.

Start right here and enter your zip code to get free online quotes from multiple insurers.

If Farmers has caught your interest and you want to get a quote, follow this article for an easy walkthrough and explanation of their quotes process and coverage options.

Step #1 — Why Farmers?

Farmers offers a wide range of insurance policies from homeowners and pet insurance to auto and boat coverage. As one of the top 10 largest car insurance companies in America, it’s easy to see why they’d be on your list when shopping around for a new policy.

Available in 50 states and known for its reliability, Farmers is a solid choice for someone who wants a secure provider. If you’re making the switch from a small and perhaps uncertain company, considering a company as assured as Farmers is a good call.

We recommend kicking off your quotes with some research. From the homepage of the Farmers website, click “Insurance” and then “Auto” to be taken to the main car insurance page.

Here, you’ll be able to learn about the company’s different policies, discounts, services, and hear from Farmers themselves why they’re a smart choice.

Step #2 — Enter Your Zip Code

Enter your zip code on one of the site’s quote boxes to begin. From the homepage, select auto insurance from the drop down menu and enter your residential zip code. You can also return to this place later and retrieve a saved quote or find a local agent to contact.

Step #3 — Understand How Your Information Will Be Used

When you’re looking to compare car insurance quotes online, you’ll have to provide some basic personal information across various sites. Before you offer your full name, address, and other details, it’s a good idea to see just how a company will protect and use the information you provide.

Scroll down to the bottom of the page after entering your zip code; click “Privacy Policy” and read about how Farmers handles both customer and non-customer information.

According to their privacy policy, Farmers has “physical, electronic, and procedural safeguards that comply with applicable regulatory standards to guard your nonpublic personal information.”

Step #4 — Provide Your Info

If you agree to the Privacy Policy, start your request by entering your first and last names, address and specifying your gender. If you need assistance or have questions, you can call the number on the right-hand side of the screen to chat with a live customer service rep.

Step #5 — Get Answers Along the Way

Whenever you notice a question mark on the form, click it to read an explanation. Sometimes, the information you want to provide might actually differ from what’s accurate in an insurance company’s eyes.

Step #6 — Provide Vehicle Details

You’ll be prompted to enter your vehicle’s year, make, and model. If you don’t see your car listed or you’re trying to insure a specialty vehicle, you’ll have to contact a Farmers agent via telephone or talk to one at a local office.

If you have your Vehicle Identification Number on-file, you can enter that instead and have the details imported by the system.

Step #7 — Understand How You Use Your Car

You’ll have to answer whether your car is financed, owned or leased, but you’ll also need to tell Farmers exactly how you use your car on a regular basis.

The primary use of your vehicle will influence how much you pay in car insurance and even the type of policy you need for optimal coverage. There are three options to choose from:

  • Commuting – You use your car mostly for getting to and from work and/or school.
  • Business – You mostly use your car to make sales calls, get to and from meetings, etc.
  • Pleasure – This car is driven mostly for fun; you may use it to run errands here and there, but it isn’t your primary mode of transportation.

Step #8 — Learn About Safety Features and Save

If your car has any of the safety features listed on the screen, you might qualify for discounts. If you’re thinking of upgrading your car in the future, consider adding some of the top safety features like OnStar emergency response system,  pre-crash collision systems, blind spot detection or a rearview camera.

Step #9 — Enter Driver Info

Once you’ve added your car(s) details, it’s time to construct a basic driver profile. Your marital status, age and other facts impact how much you’ll pay for car insurance.

You’ll also be presented with a list of careers, and you’ll be able to select your position from the options. If you don’t see you job title listed, you can select “other” and manually enter your occupation.

Step #10 — Evaluate Your Current Insurance Status

If you don’t currently have auto insurance or have never been insured, you can easily move on to the next step without another thought. If, on the other hand, you do have auto insurance, it’s important to understand how to switch auto insurance carriers before you buy a new policy.

When you cancel car insurance, you should typically provide a 3o-day notice so you aren’t driving uninsured and still have time to find a new company with better coverage.

In some cases, giving a cancellation notice may prompt your current company to make some changes to your existing policy and offer you a discount.

If this doesn’t happen or you’re still set on switching to a new provider, make sure you ask about any cancellation fees and how long coverage will remain active so you don’t wind up with a fine or unintentionally drive around uninsured.

If you say that you’re insured on Farmers’ quote wizard, you’ll have to enter the name of your current company. Suggestions will appear as you type.

You’ll then have to answer how long you’ve been continuously insured with this company and enter the limits on your coverage policies such as bodily injury. Finally, you’ll need to provide the expiration date of your current policy.

Step #11 — Add Some Final Touches and Get Your Quote

You’ll have to enter when you were first insured in the US, and you’ll also have the option to provide license information if you were insured in a different country.

You’ll be asked whether or not you’re a current student with a GPA of or above 3.0, which could qualify you for another discount.
