- Changing your deductible will impact the premiums you pay
Allstate Insurance has been offering auto insurance since 1931 and is the largest insurance company to be publicly held in the United States.
There are a variety of car insurance plans that you can choose from, as well as different deductible levels. How much you pay for your insurance premiums is determined by what type of coverage you have and how much your deductible is.
You can compare car insurance rates now just by entering your ZIP code at the top of this page.
Allstate offers a number of different coverage options to fit everyone’s needs and budget. They also help you understand your insurance policy and offer discounts to help you save money on your premiums.
What types of liability coverage does Allstate offer?
Liability coverage helps protect and cover you from any damage you do to property or to others if you are in an accident. This coverage is required in every state, although the level of liability ranges from state to state. Check your own state’s requirements.
Medical payments coverage will help pay any medical expenses that may result from an accident.
It does not matter whose fault the accident was, and it covers not only you but also any passengers riding in the car.
Uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage helps you if you are in an accident with a driver that has little or no insurance. This policy helps cover damage to your car, as well as any injuries to the passengers and driver.

What type of vehicle protection does Allstate offer?
If you have collision coverage, it will help to pay for repairs to your vehicle if you are in an accident that is covered by your policy.
Comprehensive coverage is offered by Allstate and it helps to pay for damages to your vehicle that are not caused by an accident or collision. Examples of damage covered by comprehensive coverage include that caused by vandalism or by a storm.
What other types of coverage does Allstate offer?
Allstate offers several more types of insurance including:
- Personal injury protection (PIP) – This covers you if you are in an accident. This type of coverage reimburses you for things such as medical expenses, as well as childcare expenses, lost income, and other costs.
- Roadside assistance – Towing and labor costs coverage is Allstate’s roadside assistance program. This coverage helps to reimburse you for basic roadside assistance such as towing, flat tires, running out of gas, and more.
- Rental reimbursement – This coverage is helpful if you have been in an accident and your car is in the shop for repairs. This coverage will help reimburse you for a rental car until your vehicle is ready to drive again.
- Sound system coverage – This may be a good choice for you if you have installed an expensive sound system in your vehicle. This covers you if it is damaged or stolen.
Which deductible should I choose?
When you decide on a car insurance policy, you will need to decide on your deductible amount. The deductible refers to the amount that you agree to pay before the insurance company starts paying out.
For example, if you were in an accident that totaled $2,000 in damage and your deductible was $500, you would pay the $500 first and then Allstate would pay the remaining $1,500.
The amount of your deductible will determine how much you pay for your premium. If you have a lower deductible, your out-of-pocket expenses will be less if you have a claim, but your premiums will be higher throughout the year.
If you have a higher deductible, your insurance premiums will be lower.
Whether you should choose a higher or lower deductible depends on your situation and cash flow.
An Allstate agent can discuss your lifestyle and help you determine what the best option is for you.

What is a coverage limit?
Along with choosing a deductible, you will also be asked to choose a coverage limit. This refers to the highest amount that Allstate will pay if you make an insurance claim.
If you want to pay less money on your premiums right now, you may want to choose a lower coverage limit. In this case, keep in mind that if you are in an accident you may have to pay more expenses out of pocket.
If you have a coverage limit that is higher, then if you have a loss you will have a higher payout, and less out-of-pocket expenses. This higher limit will result in you paying more for your insurance premiums.
