Since gender inequality is such a hot topic and a huge issue in the United States, it is important for people to look at every aspect of what they are paying and how it correlates to their gender.
Even car insurance can be gender-biased which makes it hard for people to know if they are really getting the best price possible or if they are just receiving a quote based on their gender.
Understanding how much car insurance a male would pay as opposed to a female from different insurance companies in Colorado is one of the easiest ways to figure out if gender inequality is a problem for car insurance coverage in Colorado.
All in all, men will have lower insurance premiums than women which means that on average, women aren’t being charged higher prices for car insurance. In fact, some insurers charge women more money than men even though they offer cheaper policies. This means that when comparing car insurance quotes between genders, it’s important to understand why certain companies might give a woman a better deal over a man.

- Shopping around is important for both males and females because insurance quotes can be extremely different from company to company
- Using a controlled test may be one of the most accurate ways to find out if there is gender inequality in insurance in Colorado
The Controlled Car Insurance Test in Colorado
When getting a quote on car insurance for male and female drivers, there were several control factors that were in place. The variable was the gender of the person getting the quote, but the controls were as follows:
- each person was single
- each was 25
- both were homeowners
- both were employed
- They had each received one speeding ticket at less than 20 miles per hour in the past year
- Their cars were five-years-old Nissan Altimas
- They both held insurance policies for, at least, three years
The quotes they received were for the cheapest plan per month. In most instances, the car insurance companies gave quotes for more than just the single cheapest plan.
There were no discounts the drivers used other than ones the car insurance company put on there automatically. They had coverage for comprehensive and collision in most instances, but they did not have coverage for any type of uninsured motorist property damage.
They received quotes from Progressive, Allstate, and Geico. You can check out our data sheet right here.
