Much like any type of vehicle, car insurance companies take into consideration:

  • The value of the vehicle
  • The age of the driver
  • The driver’s safety record and more

In addition to these factors, the insurance company will take the type of Scion that you drive into consideration. For example, the Scion tC RS is a sportier car than the Scion xD, which means that it could cost more to insure the tC RS than the xD.

Are Scions expensive to insure? In actuality, many people find that the Toyota Scion is quite affordable to insure.

How much does it cost to insure a Scion tC? The average cost of Toyota Scion car insurance is between $2,500 and $3,500, depending on considerations such as your:

How can I save money on my Toyota Scion car insurance?

As with any car, you can save money on car insurance by shopping around. Whether you are looking for Scion tC or Scion FR-S insurance cost, free quote tools are the easiest way to get multiple quotes in one location while saving time.

In addition to shopping around, you need to consider the safety features and anti-theft devices in your car. The safer your car is, the less you will pay. In addition, if you have anti-theft devices on your Scion, then your insurance will cost less as well.

You should also seek any discounts that you qualify for from your insurance company. Every insurance company offers different discounts, which, again, is why shopping around can save you money.

You should receive a discount if you are:

  • A safe driver
  • Purchasing multiple insurance policies
  • A college graduate
  • Adding or have anti-theft devices
  • Married
  • A parent

This video gives you some great tips on car insurance discounts.

You can also save a lot of money on your car insurance by choosing a high deductible for your Scion.

While most people choose $250 to $500, you can choose the $1,000 option and lower your rates by nearly half. Naturally, you want to have that money in the bank to cover any damages should you have an accident.

Another way to save a lot of money is to buy a used Scion instead of a new one. Buying a used car will reduce the total value of the car and reduce the claim price if your vehicle is totaled in an accident or is stolen. You don’t have to choose a piece of junk, just something with a couple of years on it.

Is the Toyota Scion more expensive to insure than other cars?

This is an interesting question because the average monthly car insurance payment for a Scion is almost as much as it costs to insure a more expensive sports car. The bottom line is that some of the Scions are more expensive than average and one isn’t.

The Toyota Scion tC, which is a 2007 model of the Scion, was actually one of the lower than average cost cars to insure in that year.

It is important to note that the Scion was still more expensive than most of the cars on the list of 2007 models.

In a list of 62 cars, the Scion tC was number 59.

Part of the problem with some of the Scion line is that they didn’t get the high safety ratings as some of the other Toyota vehicles on the market. Naturally, the lower the safety rating is, the higher the premiums are going to be.

As mentioned above, if you add to that the value of the vehicle, the type of driver you are, and so on, you could end up with something far higher or far lower than the national average.

Why are some Scion models more expensive to insure than others?

Is a Toyota Scion a sports car? The tC is Scion’s two-door sports coupe. It has a larger and faster engine than the other Scion models. It is made to appeal to sports car drivers.

As a general rule, sports cars cost more to insure than sedans. The reasoning relies on the idea that sports car owners buy these faster cars so they can go fast. Drivers who drive fast tend to have more accidents and thus incur higher premiums.

Is a Scion tC considered a sports car on insurance? The xD and xB have a different engine, designed for smooth handling and fuel efficiency, and the tC won’t pull in high-cost sports rates. The insurance costs for these Scions do not reflect the higher costs of the sporty model.

In the first few years of Scion’s existence, the vehicles did not do as well on safety tests as other cars in the same class, resulting in higher premiums.

This safety rating has changed, as both the Scion tC and xB were awarded a “Top Safety Pick” for 2011 by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.

Scion has also introduced the Star Safety System, which includes enhanced safety features like:

  • Traction control
  • Stability control
  • Brake assist

These improvements continue to bring insurance costs for Scions down.

What are the features of the Toyota Scion?

The Toyota Scion seems to be a good car for someone looking for something affordable, with good gas mileage and a host of standard features. The standard features include all the basics for safety and new technology.

Some of these standards are as follows:

  • iPod compatibility
  • 26-37 mph city to highway mileage
  • 300-watt Pioneer audio speakers
  • Auto-dimming mirrors
  • Remote engine start
  • USB ports

These models offer a list of accessories such as XM Radio, and the Scion Navigational system model 200. The cost of these vehicles ranges between $17,000 and $20,000 at the base price, including standard features.

You can add other accessories such as:

  • TRD wheel locks
  • Rear-seat entertainment
  • Paint and rear bumper protection package
  • Sports steering wheel

The iQ is the latest addition to the list and the most compact. This is the one that gets up to 37 miles to one gallon of gas. There was an xA model that supposedly offered 38 mpg, but that model was discontinued around 2007.

Is a Scion tC a reliable car? J.D. Power ranks the tC at 79/100 for reliability, which is pretty good.

It always helps to shop around, whether you’re looking for Scion xD or xB insurance rates, and getting multiple Scion insurance company quotes can help you get there. But it matters where you get them, and information about Scion tC insurance from Reddit should be taken with a grain of salt.
