Amica Car Insurance Company History

The Amica Car Insurance Company was founded in 1907 by A.T. Vigneron, a Rhode Island businessman.

Convinced that horseless carriages were going to become very popular with Americans, he decided to create a company for the purpose of insuring those carriages.

Vigneron believed his company should provide protection to responsible policyholders.

In addition, he wanted all his customers to be treated in a respectful manner and provided with exemplary customer service.

Policyholders were part owners of the company and were paid dividends. This practice continues today and most policyholders receive them annually.

Amica has offices located nationwide and employs 3,000 people.

It has expanded its product line to include home, marine, and personal umbrella insurance as well as car insurance. Amica also offers life insurance coverage through Amica Life Insurance Company, a subsidiary corporation.

Amica Mutual Companies

The Amica family of companies includes a number of corporate holdings.

The corporate entity offering car insurance is the Amica Mutual Insurance Company. It provides services to customers in all states, with the exception of Hawaii.

The Amica Life Insurance Company has been in business since 1968. It offers life insurance and annuities to customers, as well as some health products.

Amica Lloyd’s of Texas offers property insurance to customers in the Lone Star State.

The Amica Property and Casualty Insurance Company was founded in 2005 and offers car insurance to New Jersey residents.

California residents can use the Amica General Insurance Agency to meet their needs. And customers who have unique insurance needs can look to the Amica General Agency for assistance.

Amica Car Insurance Company Products

Amica has a number of options available for car insurance coverage.

It can offer customers a bare-bones liability policy that satisfies the minimum requirements for the state where they live, or the company can structure a plan that provides a higher level of protection.

Customers are always free to consider buying more than the minimum amount of coverage in their state.

It’s a good idea to consider how much medical bills, funeral costs, lost wages and other expenses following a motor vehicle accident may be before choosing a specific level of coverage.

Auto insurance customers can also choose the level of deductible that fits their needs and their budget. A higher deductible could help individuals save a considerable amount of money on their car insurance premiums.

Customers should consider their deductible amount very carefully, however, as this is the amount they are agreeing to pay out-of-pocket before the insurance company will pay out any benefits.

Options Offered by Amica

Amica also offers its customers other car insurance products that are designed to protect the vehicle itself.

Customers can consider buying collision coverage that will pay for repair costs if the car is damaged as the result of striking or being hit by another vehicle.

If the car is totaled in an accident, the collision coverage pays an amount equal to the value of the car, less the deductible chosen by the customer.

Comprehensive coverage pays out when the damage to the vehicle is caused by something other than a collision.

In cases where a vehicle is stolen or sustains damage from a fire or an act of vandalism, this type of insurance protection pays for the cost of repairs or replaces the vehicle (up to its cash value).

Comprehensive insurance also pays out in cases where the damage to the vehicle is the result of hail or the vehicle being struck by an animal.

The company’s insurance options include plans for protecting the occupants of its customers’ cars, including policies for uninsured or underinsured drivers.

When an accident occurs and the other driver doesn’t have enough coverage in place to pay for the cost of medical bills and other expenses incurred by those injured in the accident, the underinsured driver policy pays the difference.

Uninsured driver coverage comes into play when a hit and run accident occurs and the driver is unidentified or doesn’t have insurance coverage.

This part of the car insurance policy protects drivers from these types of circumstances. The above policy options are offered by most major insurance companies. So what makes Amica stand out?

Take a look at some of the special options they provide that meet the unique needs of some drivers.

Amica Special Coverage Options

Depending on where the customer lives, he or she may be entitled to some helpful policy provisions.

For instance, customers will not have to pay a charge for the policy deductible if the vehicle is declared a total write-off within the first 180 days after being purchased.

If the keys to the vehicle are lost or stolen, the insured may not need to pay the deductible when having the locks replaced.

The insured may not need to pay a deductible when having glass repaired, as long as it doesn’t need to be replaced.

In a situation where a deployed airbag needs to be repaired or replaced, the insured may not need to pay a deductible, either.

Being required to attend court at the insurance company’s request means the policyholder will be reimbursed for any lost wages, and the company also pays $1,000 for bail bonds.

Amica Claims and Customer Service

This company has a good reputation for rapid response to claims. Claims on an auto insurance policy can be reported by phone or online.

The company provides an online Claim Center where customers can find out the current status of an insurance claim or update the information on an existing one.

This service also lets customers access claims payment information, review the policy deductible, and contact the person handling the claim directly.

The Customer Service section of the Amica website offers visitors general information about insurance coverage. Existing customers can log into their insurance account to review their policy information.

They can also pay for their policy online.

Customers who visit the Amica Car Insurance Company online can also look at various payment options in order to select the best one for their personal situation.
