Mazda Offerings

Mazda is producing the following models for 2014:

For MSRP, price ranges, and miles per gallon as rated by the EPA, consult Mazda’s website. Reliability on most of their models has been impressive and consumer reviews are good.

The interior of the Mazda6 is comfortable with a tilt and telescope steering wheel. Reviewers who drove the vehicle consider the turn response to be quick and the firm suspension keeps the body level. For a four-cylinder vehicle, it is quick. The Mazda6 was tested at a 0-to-60 mph time of 7.5 seconds.

This increase in speed provides the power you need to merge in freeway driving, which can also become a bit of temptation to speed where you should not.

Remember that speeding can increase the cost of ownership for your new vehicle.

Insuring a Mazda6 Sedan

Since the 2014 Mazda6 sedan with its basic MSRP at $14,720 is recommended for purchase by entry-level car purchasers, this is probably the first new vehicle you have owned. Up until now, you’ve purchased reasonably well-reviewed used vehicles and been happy with them, but this might be your first new car.

The purpose of insurance is to protect your financial investments, past and future.

Each state has a financial responsibility law that requires you to carry liability insurance to protect others should you incur liability in an accident that causes bodily injury or property damage to others.

You can either call the state’s  Department of Insurance or go to their website on the Internet to determine the limits of liability that are required by law.

Recommended Limits of Liability

State limits of liability are the least you can carry to be legal.

It is a wise choice, however, to examine the limits of liability you carry to be certain that they are enough to protect you against financial loss from medical bills incurred by others for which you are liable.

The following limits are recommended:

  • Bodily Injury Liability — $100,000 per person and $300,000 per accident to pay for your liability in the event of an accident you cause
  • Property Damage Liability–$50,000 per accident to pay for your liability for property if you cause an accident
  • Medical Payments Coverage— $5,000 to pay for incidental medical coverage for you and your passengers in the event of injury
  • Uninsured and Underinsured Motorists Coverage— $100,000 per person and $300,000 per accident to pay for bodily injury to you and your passengers if the accident is caused by an uninsured motorist
  • Comprehensive Coverage Pays for theft, vandalism, weather damage, glass damage, and animal damage, caused to your own vehicle. This protects you and the entity you have borrowed money from to pay for the car. A $500 deductible is usual, but choose your deductible based upon your own budget.
  • Collision CoveragePays for collision damage to your own vehicle whether it is your fault or another person’s fault. Again, this protects both you and the lender on your car. A $500 deductible will save you premium money, but you need to determine what you can afford.

Comparison Shopping for Car Insurance

A practical thing to do is to check the costs of your car insurance by requesting comparison quotes at least once a year. Many individuals check on the anniversary of their policies for a number of reasons:

  • Insurance companies base rates on their experience
  • Your life and family situation may vary – teen drivers, accidents, or violations can change rates
  • The distance you drive your car can vary – a new job, an additional job, or other factors

Information You Will Need to Get a Comparison Quote

In addition to your current levels of liability and coverage, you will need the following:

  • Names, dates of birth, drivers’ license numbers for all drivers
  • Driving record for all drivers
  • Amount paid for any car insurance losses you may have had
  • Ownership status for your home
  • Estimate of your current credit rating, i.e., fair, good, poor

The following quote is as though the individual were living in Northglenn, Colorado:

Hypothetically, a married couple own their own home and have two small children. Both husband and wife have Bachelors Degrees from a state college. The husband works as a sales manager, while the wife is currently a homemaker.

Insurance Company #1: $513.31 every six months.

Insurance Company #2: $961.00 every six months.

Insurance rates vary according to the particular company’s experience with your demographic, your car, and general status.

That is why it’s a good idea to do comparison shopping for car insurance at least once a year.

Be certain to double-check insurance companies to determine the financial standing and customer satisfaction of that particular insurance company. A.M. Best is an insurance company rating firm that gives letter ratings for insurance companies. You can access it on the Internet for ratings. Look for an A or better rating for your insurance company.
