Anaheim, California is a safe city in which to live. The crime rate is low, and the scenery is beautiful. However, if you have come from another place in California or another state, be ready for some possible changes in rates and car insurance laws.
Anaheim Requirements for Auto Insurance
Private vehicles operating on California’s highways and roads are required to be insured. Most people pick standard insurance from an insurance company represented by a California car insurance agent.
The state auto insurance minimum required in California also applies to Anaheim.
The liability coverage required is:
- $15,000 to provide for injury or death for a single person
- $30,000 to provide for injury or death for 2 or more persons
- $5,000 to provide for damage caused to property
This kind of coverage is often referred to as 15/30/5.
The rates for this basic minimum insurance are not very high, but the California Low-Cost Automobile Insurance Program is provided for those that still cannot afford basic liability.
Liability insurance is one of 4 ways to be financially responsible for a vehicle in California.
The other three ways are:
- $35,000 worth of cash deposited with the DMV
- A self-insurance certificate that has been issued by the DMV
- A special bond in the amount of $35,000 issued by an approved company
Proof of Car Insurance
You must provide evidence of one of the above for any vehicle operated on California roads, including parked vehicles.
There are three circumstances when you must provide this proof and have it in your vehicle:
- When a police officer requests to see it
- When you need to renew your registration
- When involved in an accident
Anaheim Auto Insurance Suspension Rules
Your vehicle registration will be suspended if you don’t conform to certain government rules.
It may be suspended if:
- Your insurance policy was cancelled, and you didn’t get a new one for 45 days or more
- You don’t submit insurance information within 30 days of either buying a new or used car
- You originally acquired your registration by providing false papers
In order to get your registration back again, you must show valid proof of car insurance and pay the necessary fee.
Companies Providing Car Insurance in Anaheim
Here are some of the more popular Anaheim car insurance companies:
There are many more companies in addition to those listed above.
You will normally deal with an agent that has been authorized to sell insurance for a given company.
These companies have standard policies that they offer to applicants. When the company creates these policies, they consult actuarial tables that inform them about the risks connected with certain types of drivers.
Rates for Anaheim Auto Insurance
Sometimes, when giving a quote, the policy chosen does not take into account some strong points you may have as a driver.
If you are a young driver, car insurance companies may not take into account that you have an excellent school record or driving record up to this point.
All insurance companies are not the same and will not offer you the same policy or rates. Be sure to take time and explore your options before you select any one company.

Here are some of the factors that decide your Anaheim city car insurance rate:
- Marital Status
- Credit Rating
- Driving Record
- Type of Vehicle
- Zip Code
Some people will have to pay a higher rate based upon their zip code alone. This may not seem fair to a safe driver, but this is the way it works.
Car Insurance Agents
If you open the phone book and look for Anaheim insurance agents, you will be overwhelmed. There are so many, and all of them would be happy to offer and sell you car insurance.
They will assure you that they have the best car insurance policy for you. Maybe they feel that they do.
However, any single insurance agent will not always have a perfectly tailored solution for you. Most agents deal with a limited number of companies and offer limited types of auto insurance options. In short, they sell what they know.
Since there are sometimes dozens of factors that will impact the features and cost of your specific policy, chances are high that shopping around will provide better options for you.
You need to take the bull by the horns, decide you are going to compare car insurance quotes objectively, and then make a decision about which policy is best for you.
