Liability Bodily Injury Protection

California requires drivers to own liability car coverage in two different forms:

  • Coverage protection amounts per person
  • Coverage amounts per accident

The purpose of liability insurance is to provide compensation to an individual other than the actual policyholder when there has been a bodily injury or some form of property damage. Bodily injury liability provides coverage regarding another driver’s injuries or death.

Bodily injury liability provides coverage regarding another driver’s injuries or death.

Long Beach drivers must own the state minimum amount which is set at $15,000 per person.

The insurance of the driver at-fault will be held responsible for up to $15,000 of the costs per person. If these costs surpass $15,000 per person, the driver at-fault will have to pay for the difference.

The insurance company pays up to $30,000 for these kinds injuries for all of the passengers in the car that are found not at fault. If the costs exceed $30,000, the driver at-fault may be held responsible for the difference.

These situations are commonly resolved in a court of law, where the injured party files suit against the driver at-fault.

Property Damage Coverage

Property damage coverage pertains to any type of property which is damaged by the vehicle of the driver at-fault.

To illustrate, in the state of California, if a driver or their family member, who is covered on the policy, accidentally backs into a house, this form of coverage will pay for the repairs to the property, up to $5,000.

The insurer does not provide coverage to the driver’s vehicle that was at fault. The driver at fault will be held financially responsible for the repairs if they exceed the limit.

This type of coverage can also be used to cover any associated legal fees resulting from a court action pertaining to the auto accident.

States that have a higher cost of living, such as California, tend to have more expensive cars. It is important for drivers of luxury vehicles to own adequate car coverage in the event of an accident.

Should a driver of a luxury vehicle accidentally damage a piece of property that is worth much more than the amount auto insurance they own, the financial consequences can be substantial. It is not wise to be thrifty when it comes to liability coverage.

When shopping around for auto insurance policies, it is very important to consider the amount of bodily injury liability and property damage liability coverage to obtain.

The minimum requirements usually are not adequate enough to protect drivers from paying out-of-pocket if they cause any type of serious damage resulting from an auto accident.

It is advisable for drivers to own 100/300/50 of coverage.

This translates to $100,000 minimum for bodily injury for each individual, $300,000 for bodily injury for each auto accident, and $50,000 for any property damage.

These amounts are much more adequate regarding the costs associated with high-income locations, thus providing better coverage. Drivers can easily obtain several different insurance quotes online regarding this type of coverage.

Optional Insurance Coverage

There are additional kinds of coverage drivers can purchase that will provide more financial protection in the event of an auto accident or property damage involving their vehicle.

Comprehensive Coverage

Comprehensive coverage protects the policyholder’s vehicle regardless of the cause of the damage. It does not matter if the damage was the result of vandalism or acts of God, the policyholder is covered.

In certain parts of the country where floods or earthquakes are frequent, it is wise for drivers to invest in these kinds of policies.

Collision Coverage

Collision coverage ensures that the insurance company will pay for repairs resulting from damaged caused by a collision with another vehicle.

Uninsured and Underinsured Coverage

Accidents that involve uninsured and/or underinsured motorists tend to be more frequent than individuals realize.

Owning this form of coverage will protect policyholders from these kinds of drivers that can cause severe damage to a properly insured driver’s vehicle.

The insurance company is obligated to cover these kinds of vehicular or medical expenses when individuals own this type of coverage.

Individuals may opt to purchase Uninsured Motorist Coverage but this type of coverage is not required for Long Beach motorists.

When buying this kind of California policy, the coverage that is purchased will have to be at least the same amount of the mandatory Bodily Injury Coverage.

If the policyholder buys more than the mandated amount for Bodily Injury Coverage, Underinsured Motorist Coverage can be obtained for a reduced amount.

According to state law, insurance carriers can provide Uninsured Motorist Coverage in amounts above $30,000 per personal injury resulting from an auto accident and up to $60,000 for all persons involved in a particular accident.

When individuals choose to purchase Uninsured Motorist Coverage, their insurance policy has to also comprise of Underinsured Motorist Coverage.

California mandates insurance carriers to provide Underinsured Motorist Coverage in amounts equal to the Uninsured Motorist Coverage.

Insurers can also provide higher amounts of Underinsured Motorist Coverage than the Uninsured Motorist Coverage obtained by a policyholder.

Long Beach motorists must own liability limits of 12/30/5 this represents $20,000 of bodily injury coverage for each individual and $30,000 of bodily injury coverage for each accident which covers medical bills and any lost wages.

There is also $5,000 allocated towards property damage coverage for each accident, covering any necessary repairs for property aside from the policyholder’s vehicle.

Personal Injury Protection Coverage

State laws do not require drivers to own Personal Injury Protection (PIP) and No-Fault Coverage. Low-income motorists that may not be able to afford liability insurance, can apply for the California Low Cost Automobile Insurance Program.

Personal injury protection functions in much the same way as health insurance plans. Any kind of medical expenses resulting from an auto accident experienced by the policyholder and any passengers are covered by their auto insurance policy.

This is good coverage to have for drivers that often drive with other passengers including carpools. Shopping online for insurance coverage can allow customers to receive:

  • Save money and time
