The name Courier has a long history in the Ford Motor Company. The original Ford Courier was built in the 1950s as a station wagon with a window split into thirds to accommodate the way the back opened.

It was discontinued in America in 1960, but its legacy didn’t die there.

How does its history affect the car insurance cost for a Ford Courier?

The most well-known model of the Ford Courier is a pickup truck. Starting in 1972, the name Courier was given to a new mini pickup truck. It has been an international success from its birth to the present and can be seen worldwide, from America to European countries to Brazil.

The Ford Courier has gradually developed from a truck with a long, open bed and small cabin to one that has a roomy cabin and a shorter, enclosed bed. They continued to be sold internationally, mainly in Brazil, until 2013.

The first Couriers featured a two-liter, four-cylinder engine, large storage ability, rear wheel drive and a four-speed manual transmission. Relatively expensive for its class at that time, the Ford Courier cost $3,000.

Mazda built the Ford Courier to reflect the look of the F-series, making it look like the little brother of the Ford pickups. This version of the Ford Courier was sold until 1976. The next year, Ford offered a new version of the Courier that had these options:

  • 2.3-liter engine
  • Front disk brakes
  • An automatic transmission or a five-speed manual transmission

Ford sold this Courier until 1982 when it was discontinued in America in favor of the Ford Ranger, which was been on the market from 1983 to 2012.

Although the 1982 Ford Courier was the last model made in America, the line was continued in other countries. The Ford Courier Van appeared in Europe in 1991 and was sold until 2002.

Ford produced a mini pickup called a Courier in 1998. It was based on the Fiesta and sold in Mexican markets.

How can I lower the car insurance cost for a Ford Courier?

There are many ways to lower the price of insurance for a Ford Courier. Here are a few:

  • Add security to your Ford Courier. Because these cars are rarely made now, most of them do not have the security features standard in modern cars. Installing an approved alarm system, wheel locks, tracking devices and any other safety measures will lower your car insurance rates considerably.
  • Lower your premiums by accepting a higher deductible. If you feel you can afford to have a substantial emergency fund in the bank, it’s a good idea to have a higher deductible.
  • Drive less. The more your Ford Courier is on the road, the more it is in danger. Insurance companies will give you low mileage discounts for limiting the miles you put on your car.

Depending on the age of your Ford Courier, it might meet the requirements for classic car insurance. Some of the many qualifications for this specialty insurance are:

  • The Ford Courier must be 15+ years old
  • It can’t be your main source of transportation
  • When not in use, it has to be in a locked garage or storage facility
  • Your Ford Courier must be in mint condition

If your Ford Courier meets these requirements and others imposed by insurance companies, then classic car insurance might be the best kind of insurance for you.
