Here's what you need to know...

  • Many car insurance companies now offer apps as a convenience
  • These apps allow clients to view policies, find agents, and sometimes even make accident claims
  • You can search the app store on your smartphone to find your insurance company’s app for free

With today’s advancing technology, more and more companies are developing easier ways for you to access their information.

One such way this is happening is through apps for smartphones. Apps can offer many different services to people with smartphones and tablets, and insurance companies are finding that these apps can make certain processes easier as well.

Enter your zip code above to access car insurance quotes from multiple providers!

Apps are simply programs designed for a mobile platform like iOS or Android.

These programs are accessed via a virtual button on the device’s screen, and then the person using the app is directed to a site, game, or product.

Apps for car insurance companies are free to download and use. In some cases, they are simple programs that allow you to compare quotes online.

In other cases, they allow you access to your policy so that you can review it, make changes, and more.

Some insurance companies even allow you to file a claim by using your app, which means you can file a claim at the scene of an accident without even having to speak to an agent.

Benefits of Using Car Insurance Apps

If you don’t have a smartphone or a similar device, then you aren’t going to see much in the way of benefits from car insurance apps. They aren’t designed to use on a PC or a laptop.

If, however, you are using a smartphone or similar device, then an app is beneficial because it allows you access with one click.

You don’t have to try to manage a tiny keyboard to type in the site address of the insurance company that you use and, in many cases, your app can be personalized with all of your sign-in and policy information so that you are viewing everything with one screen touch.

What’s more, many apps are designed to help with specific problems.

For example, if you notice that you have a crack in your windshield, your insurance company app will direct you to the nearest company that accepts your insurance so that you can get repairs.

Another benefit is, if you have an accident, you can use your smartphone app to check and see what the requirements are for filing a claim with your insurance company.

They will advise you regarding the steps you should take with the other driver in the accident, the police, and so on.

Drawbacks of Using Car Insurance Apps

For many people, there are no downsides to using an app. However, there are people who find that, because these apps are in their beta stage, they can be buggy. This can lead to frustration for the user.

In addition, security is an issue.

There have been thousands of incidents where smartphones have been hacked and with all that personal information being stored in one place via apps, a hacker could learn everything they want about you, your house, your car, and more.

Apps are often limited in what they offer as well.

It really depends on the insurance company that created the app as to what it has to offer.

Some apps can be limited to just viewing your policy while others can have full features.

Lastly, your app is no good if you have an accident or you are in an area with no cell phone service. While it’s true that those areas are growing smaller by the day, there are still many rural areas that face this problem.

Car Insurance Companies That Have Apps

Nearly every major insurance company now offers a car insurance app for you to use. There are even a few smaller ones that offer apps as well, although those tend to offer less options than companies such as Progressive, State Farm, and Allstate.

You should not choose your car insurance company based on the apps that they might offer. Even though these things can offer some convenience, they are far from being the most important thing that you need to consider.

Some of the things that you will want to consider are the company’s reputation, how long it has been in business, and its customer service rating through websites such as the Better Business Bureau and A.M. Best.

Of course, you don’t want to forget to check prices as well.
