Here's what you need to know...

  • New cars usually come with a warranty which covers unexpected damages to various car parts
  • A warranty typically only lasts for a couple of years or up to a certain amount of mileage
  • American Standard Auto Protection (ASAP) offered vehicle service contracts to cover repairs

*ASAP shut operations down after being investigated for consumer fraud by the Deleware Department of Justice.

New cars usually come with a warranty which then covers unexpected damages to various car parts. A warranty typically only lasts for a couple of years or up to a certain amount of mileage, unless it’s the type that specifies a longer period of time. When you purchase a vehicle, always ask to see what the warranty length is and what it covers.

American Standard Auto Protection (ASAP) offered vehicle service contracts to cover those needed repairs once a manufacturer warranty expires. Sometimes an extended warranty can be cheaper than taking your car to a repair shop.

They have since ceased operating, but you may still be in the market for various rates and benefits for your vehicle. If you are, then you can use our FREE quote tool to compare auto insurance rates today!

What was covered under American Standard Auto Protection?

American Standard Auto Protection offered vehicle service contracts to help customers to cover unexpected car repairs. There were a few different options to choose from with their extended warranties and service contracts, which meant that taking your vehicle to a repair facility would potentially be a little less expensive.

ASAP also provided a 30-day money back guarantee in an effort to make sure their customers were completely satisfied. ASAP also offered roadside assistance, and you didn’t need a credit check to purchase a contract.

When they were in service, you were able to find more information about their plans by filling out the quote tool on their website or by calling (302)-231-1844. These won’t work now since they are no longer in service.

ASAP, when they were in operation, did not provide their services in Missouri, Nevada, Washington, or Florida.

What are some of the plans that were offered by ASAP?

ASAP offered four different tiers of coverage for an extended car warranty, all with varying degrees of covered repairs, wanting to make sure customers had the best protection for their personal needs. A company that understands that not everyone is going to need to make an additional purchase when it comes to insurance can sometimes be hard to find. Even harder to find is a company who is able to function without attempting to sell its customers excess coverage. They’re out there, but you may have to do some digging.

Here is a short summary of those four plans:

  • Total Performance Plus – This was the most expensive and comprehensive plan; covered engine, transmission, fuel system, and many other repairs
  • Total Performance – This covered automatic brake system (ABS), engine, transmission, and additional repairs
  • Total Care – A mid-level plan that covered cooling system, engine, and a few other repairs
  • Total Shield – This was the cheapest, most basic plan that only covered the basics such as engine, electric system coverage

All plans offered by ASAP came with flexible payment plans. Along with warranty plans, you were able to speak with their customer service department regarding other benefits, such as discounts.

What are some of the reviews of American Standard Auto Protection?

Unfortunately, the reviews available online about American Standard Auto Protection do not look good.

On ConsumerAffairs, ASAP has 543 reviews and complaints submitted. Overall, ASAP gets a 3 out of 5 star rating from ConsumerAffairs.

American Standard Auto Protection is not accredited on ConsumerAffairs, nor it is accredited with the Better Business Bureau.

The BBB gives ASAP an F rating. According to the ASAP BBB business profile, this company received 173 complaints. ASAP failed to respond to twenty four complaints and did not resolve six complaints. As far as extended warranty companies go, it doesn’t seem as though they were popular even when they were operating. Shying away from any complaint type isn’t a strong business strategy. As you can see, complaints can negatively affect business profiles.

What’s the conclusion?

American Standard Auto Protection was a young company in the vehicle service contract industry. They had been offering plans for only five years at the time they decided to cease operations.

ASAP offered different options for their service plans which covered a range of needs from basic to comprehensive coverage.

However, despite their flexible options, ASAP had some bad online reviews which should always be taken into consideration. Any time you’re shopping around for different companies, even extended auto warranty companies, you need to look at what other people are saying about them.

Negative reviews can speak volumes and let you know that at the end of the day, that company just isn’t worth your time or money. Don’t believe anyone who tries to sell you lifetime warranties; there’s usually a catch as well as a hefty price tag.

This also holds true when you’re looking for coverage options. You should always look at online quotes, what their coverage terms are, and what people are saying about the company. And if you can, try to get a warranty through the direct provider, such as your vehicle’s manufacturer or the dealership you buy it from.

Once you’ve found a good looking provider, ask them if there are any additional benefits or discounts. This will help you find a warranty provider, an insurance provider, or any other sort of company that will be able to provide you with services well within your price range.
